Building the future of microbial research

We're a team of scientists and technologists rethinking how microbial research data is managed, shared, and secured. We created The Micro Vault to solve problems we faced in the lab every day. It's a workspace where your data flows, your team connects, and your science thrives, without friction.

What sets us apart

We didn't set out to build just another LIMS. The Micro Vault was designed from the ground up for microbial researchers. It is shaped by real workflows, not assumptions. Here's what makes us different:

Purpose-built for microbial science
No generic modules, no forced fits. Every feature in The Micro Vault is designed with microbial data structures, terminology, and research patterns in mind.
Start solo, scale to teams
Create a private digital lab that grows with you. Work independently, or invite collaborators when you're ready with clear, role-based permissions and audit history.
Genomic-ready records
Attach FASTA files, omics data, and annotations directly to your entries. Your digital records aren't just text. They're scientifically rich and actionable.
Versioning you can trust
Never lose track of edits. Every record is versioned, timestamped, and traceable, so your work stays transparent and publication-ready.
Collaboration without chaos
Move faster with structured team spaces, approval flows, and clear accountability. No more “final_final_v3” files buried in email threads.
Security by design
Your data is your IP, and we treat it that way. With role-based access control, secure infrastructure, and regular backups, your work stays protected at every step

Meet the team

We believe better tools lead to better science. That's why we've assembled a small but driven team of scientists and technologists who are reimagining how microbial research is managed, shared, and scaled.

  • Sumit Govil

Founder & Head of Product & Engineering

Sumit is a seasoned technology leader architecting scalable platforms and building high-impact software teams. A two-time founder with a strong background in both product development and enterprise systems, he has led engineering efforts across startups and global organizations.

As the founder and driving force behind The Micro Vault, Sumit leads product vision, platform strategy, and technical architecture. He combines a strategic view of emerging research needs with hands-on execution, ensuring the platform delivers simplicity, security, and scientific relevance.

  • Dr. Tanvi Govil

    Scientific Advisor

Dr. Tanvi Govil is an Assistant Professor at South Dakota Mines, where she leads the CellFe Biomanufacturing Lab. Her research focuses on extremophilic microbes for applications in cell-free biomanufacturing, carbon mineraliation, and sustainable material development.

Drawing from her hands-on experience managing microbial strain libraries and experimental workflows, Dr. Govil plays an active role as a scientific advisor to The MicroVault. Her expertise ensures that platform features support microbial data integrity, lab workflows, and collaborative research practices across both academic and industrial settings.

  • Gahan Sambhar

    Data Engineering Intern

Gahan Sambhar is a data science student at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, with a focus on data engineering and backend systems. He brings hands-on experience in software programming and data science for emerging applications.

At The Micro Vault, Gahan contributes to the development of the data architecture, API endpoints, and storage optimisation. His work supports the platform's ability to scale efficiently while maintaining data integrity and fast retrieval for scientific teams.

Our Mission

We believe that managing data shouldn't slow down discovery. At The Micro Vault, our mission is to remove the friction from microbial research, so that scientists can focus on breakthroughs, not bureaucracy.

We're building intuitive tools that give every researcher, from solo academics to large teams, the clarity, control, and collaboration they need to do their best work. And we're just getting started.
